about the author of making a killing a book about private security in iraq

James Ashcroft is a former British Infantry Captain. He served in Northern Ireland and the Former Republic of Yugoslavia, and has trained with the armies of several NATO countries including various elite US Army and Marine units.

He served as a private security contractor in Iraq from September 2003 until spring 2005. He acted as the military advisor for ‘Shadow Company’, a documentary about the phenomenon of modern private military companies which has received worldwide acclaim and has been recommended to the United States Congress.

He has recently returned with his family to Africa where he continues to work as a security consultant. Despite early misgivings, James has found the transition from the army to civilian life surprisingly easy.
